I was a student group leader when I was in college. It helped me a lot when I hit the street after graduation. One angle I could tackle was that you would have a broader view if you had been a leader. In that position, you had to deal with a group people, not just yourself. You were in a position that gave you the advantage to think about things at a higher level.
